Let me start by saying that I had no intentions of ever building a home, until I met Phil.
My wife and I were in the process of trying to add on to our existing winter home, when the builder we were using filed bankruptcy. Our electrician, Gary Berg, gave us Phil’s name, along with some other builders in the area, to help us in finishing the addition. In talking with Phil, he asked us why were putting more money into our little house to make room for our family, when we could build a beautiful custom home from scratch, and get exactly what we wanted? In talking with Phil, it was evident he was not the one to add on to our little house. He was much too custom for what we were looking for in the addition. In the meantime, we had to return to our full time home in SC, before we had made a decision on what to do. It was then
that things started to happen. Within a week of being home, out of the blue, we had a knock on our door of someone interested in buying our home. Right after that, the lot we had always had our eye on, on Deer Island, came up for sale. It seemed like the bankruptcy, meeting Phil, the knock on our door, and the lot coming up for sale after many years of eyeing it, was all trying to tell us something. Before we knew it, we were calling Phil, of Mastrosimone Construction, Inc, to ask him if he would build us our dream home. His last name always struck my wife as a name of a music director. As it turns out, Phil is a true maestro!
Phil immediately referred us to Tom Hoffmiester, a friend of his who is a very well- known and respected architect in Lake County to design our home. Phil told us that Tom would write the music, and Phil would orchestrate it for us. In our first meeting with Tom at our little house, he asked us if there used to be a wall where we were sitting at the kitchen counter. Come to find out, he had built the little house we were sitting in many, many years ago!
After meeting with Tom and Phil a few more times, Tom was well on his way of designing a true masterpiece for us. My wife and I couldn’t have dreamed of a better team to work with. Tom wrote the music and Phil conducted it beautifully, just like he said he would. Phil has a list of contractors he uses, and we can’t say enough good things about all of them.
Phil was not an absent builder. He drove a van full of tools, and was always more than willing to tackle any part of the project. In fact, I frequently found him installing windows, trim, door jams, and cutting concrete. He treated my project like it was a home he was going to live in himself, making sure everyone treated the house properly, keeping it cleaned and protected as it progressed. Phil never once tried to renegotiate our pricing. Keep in mind; we built a home during the most expensive time to build in the history of home building. The pandemic made it difficult on the labor side, along with all kinds of supply chain issues. When we signed our contract with Phil, he said he would be finished in 18 months. Well, being the great conductor that he is, we were in our home three months early!
We could not be happier with our decision to build, and we thank God for Phil and his team every day!
We would like to thank all of Phil’s subs. They all have done a magnificent job!!! We could not be happier with their work, and the interactions we have had with them all. As I said earlier, thank you to Tom Hofmeister, for writing such a beautiful piece of music (in utmost detail), and Phil (and all his subs) who played the music beautifully!!
We highly recommend Mastrosimone Construction Inc for anyone looking for a true custom home. He and his team bring integrity, honesty, friendship, and good ole hard work to build your dream home. Thank you to Phil and your whole team!!!!
